About Us
Cedar Grove Baptist Church holds to the historic Christian faith as summarized in the Baptist Faith & Message 2000. Below are our core theological convictions drawn from Scripture.
The Holy Bible is God's inspired, inerrant Word — the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. It is truth without any mixture of error for its matter, and the criterion by which the Bible is to be judged is Jesus Christ.
There is one and only one living and true God — an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth. God is eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is distinct, yet all are equal in every divine perfection.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for sin, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, and ascended to the right hand of the Father. He is coming again in power and glory.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God — fully divine. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He enables believers to understand Scripture. Every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit from the moment of salvation, and He empowers the Christian for godly living and service.
Salvation is God's gift of grace to all who receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It involves repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Justification is God's gracious and full acquittal of the sinner upon the sole condition of faith in Christ. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
A New Testament church is a local body of baptized believers associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the Gospel. The church is the body of Christ, for which He is the head. Its two scriptural ordinances are believer's baptism and the Lord's Supper. Every church is called to make disciples of all nations.
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water as a public declaration of faith in Jesus and a symbol of union with His death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members remember Christ's death, proclaim His second coming, and renew their commitment to Him.
God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Husband and wife are of equal worth before God. Parents are to teach their children God's Word and to raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly. The dead will be raised. A judgment will take place for all persons. The righteous will receive eternal life; the unrighteous, eternal separation from God.
Cedar Grove Baptist Church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Our full statement of faith aligns with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
